Tigerplay offers premium sensory room, design, manufacture and installation. Our multi sensory environments are designed specifically for each client and we look to combine our knowledge of sensory room equipment with contemporary design.

Sensory Room Concept

We offer a premium sensory room, design, manufacture and installation service. Our design approach involves considerations related to sensory perceptions, colour sensitivity, inclusive design principles, and the integration of technology. By understanding and implementing these key factors, we're able to create spaces that are comfortable, supportive, and accessible for neurodiverse individuals.

We recognise the importance of play and movement in educational settings. When designing a play area, we consider the age and movement abilities of the children with safety in mind. To ensure we get this right from the off, we welcome a collaborative approach with the school staff to ensure the best use of space, equipment and funds.

We can work with occupational therapists, carers and the like to ensure the sensory room is tailored to the specific needs of the user or users. See a recent example here.

Inclusive Design Principles

Designing environments that cater to the unique needs of neurodiverse individuals is crucial for fostering inclusivity and accommodating diverse neurodivergent experiences.

  • Flexibility in Design: Designing spaces with flexibility for customisation e.g. adaptable layouts and furniture arrangements based on sensory needs.

  • Visual Structure and Predictability: Providing clear navigation through a playroom design e.g. Signage for a sense of predictability, reducing anxiety.

Sensory Room FAQs

Who benefits most from a sensory room?

Everyone can benefit from a sensory room, but bespoke multi-sensory rooms can prove particularly beneficial for those with processing disorders, autism and visual impairments.

If someone has a sensory processing disorder, it means their body struggles to send sensory information to the brain. The senses more commonly referred to are sound, touch, vision, taste and smell.

The less commonly considered senses are vestibular (balance), interoception (sense of ones internal state) and proprioception (awareness of ones position and movement). For these senses, specialist equipment such as balance beams, 'dizzy discs' and soft play shapes can be beneficial for both children and adults.

What should be in a sensory room?

All of our play spaces engage the senses, but a considered design will tailor the space to suit the clients multi sensory requirements regardless of their age or ability.

Interactive lighting equipment works particularly well with play items in sensory rooms (e.g. fluorescent lighting, UV lighting). Get in touch today to discuss our extensive list of sensory play equipment with our team, and we can also work with you to design bespoke items tailored to the user.

How big should a sensory room be?

This would depend on accessibility. There are set measurements required for clearance of wheelchairs and disability hoists. If accessibility is not an issue, then a bespoke sensory room design can be created in any size space.

Creating a multi sensory room

Our free consultation service ensures you as the client can develop your ideas and work with us to create a sensory space which will both look fantastic and provide users with the sensory stimulation which is so important and beneficial for children, adults and whole families.

Infinity mirrors, fibre optics, fluorescent lights, light tubes and illuminated ball pools are just some of the features which we use to create our sensory experiences which both help development of gross motor skills and cognitive control, as well as creating a calming environment for de escalation.

We are constantly innovating and developing new sensory equipment and features for our multi sensory rooms. We believe that as well as creating amazing spaces with huge benefits to the user, we must recognise the effect to the environment.

Consequently, all of our equipment uses more efficient LED lighting, we use recycled foam in our soft play items and we are working hard to use more sustainable material coverings for our soft furnishings.

We work hard to use eco friendly materials and implement practices which minimise the impact on climate change. You can read our sustainability statement here.

Style and functionality

As well as sensory rooms which look awe inspiring, we work endlessly to create a calm, safe space for the user where they can relax and be calm but also explore, focus and stimulate their senses in different areas of a cohesive space which is designed and thought out to the smallest detail.

We aim to provide a sensory experience which benefits children and adults with special needs however also a space for parents and carers to enjoy.

Our bespoke range of play items, floors and wall padding adds further to the room's environment and our work with colour and learning specialists ensures each installation caters to the specific needs of the users.
