Kelbourne Park School and Nursery - Glasgow UK

We recently engaged with the Kelbourne Park School leadership team and class teachers to design and create a bespoke play area for children with additional learning needs in Glasgow, UK.

The school recognises the importance of play and movement, so we took into consideration the age and movement abilities of the children with safety in mind. The teaching staff were involved in its creation, choosing the colour scheme and helping with the preliminary design of the structure.

This collaboration resulted in a play structure that offers small easily accessible spaces but also a slide and rope netting to offer physical challenges to the more physically able children. The structure fills a large high ceilinged classroom and has transformed it into a creative, fun learning environment. The school leadership and teaching staff are thrilled with the end product;

It’s honestly been a huge hit - the children are absolutely loving exploring all the different aspects of the structure and it’s wonderful to see them using so many different skills. It’s created lots of opportunities for positive interactions and communication. The children are also developing gross motor skills whilst building confidence and self esteem. It such a joy to see them so happy and it’s making a huge different to their daily experiences in school. They are surprising us every day and their wee faces are just a picture
